Do I need a smart EV charger?

A smart EV charger lets you schedule charging, track usage and often take advantage of cheaper off-peak electricity tariffs. Many models also come with an app that shows your charging history and lets you control sessions remotely.

It isn't a legal requirement for every installation, but many homeowners choose one for the convenience and potential savings, particularly if their energy supplier offers an EV-specific off-peak tariff.

Chargers like Ohme are particularly well known for their scheduling features — see our overview on the EV chargers page for how it compares to other popular brands.

If you're unsure whether you need one, tell us about how you plan to use your charger in the quote form and we can help you think it through as part of matching you with a suitable installer.
