Octopus Intelligent Go vs Octopus Go: which suits an EV owner?

Octopus Go and Intelligent Octopus Go are both EV-friendly tariffs with a cheaper overnight rate, but they work differently. With Go, you get a fixed overnight window of cheaper electricity and it's up to you, or your charger, to run your charging inside it. It works with any car and most smart chargers.

Intelligent Octopus Go adds smart control: Octopus manages when your car charges, within the cheap window and sometimes outside it, based on your target charge and your departure time, and it needs a compatible car or charger. The trade-off is compatibility and a little less direct control over exactly when charging happens.

Which is better depends on your setup. If your car or charger is on Octopus's compatible list and you like a hands-off approach, Intelligent Go is attractive. If you'd rather schedule things yourself with a charger such as Ohme, Wallbox or Hypervolt, standard Go can be simpler. Tariff rates, windows and eligibility change from time to time, so check Octopus's current terms rather than relying on any figure in a guide, including this one.
