Near Gateshead's riverside and town centre, the Victorian terraces rely on street parking, so a home charger raises the question of the cable crossing the public footpath. That needs the consent of the highway authority, Gateshead Council, and it's sensible to check with them before paying for an installation.
Ask the council's highways team what its current process is, what type of channel or cover is acceptable, whether there's a licence fee, and what insurance it expects you to hold. Policies vary and change, so treat any old advice with caution.
Even with permission, the arrangement only works if you can reliably park outside your house. If you can't, look at on-street residential chargepoints, public charging or workplace charging. In the outer estates around Low Fell and Wrekenton, off-street parking is more common and the issue often doesn't arise.
