Wallbox vs Ohme: which home charger should you choose?

Wallbox and Ohme are both well-known smart home chargers, and for a typical UK home either will charge your car at the same 7kW maximum. The real differences are in design, software and how each handles electricity tariffs, so it's worth thinking about how you actually want to charge rather than comparing headline specs.

Ohme's main strength is tariff integration. Its app can connect to a range of supplier tariffs and automatically charge in the cheapest windows, which suits drivers who want to set a target charge and have it done at the lowest cost without thinking about it. Wallbox's Pulsar Plus is a more general-purpose smart charger: excellent build and size, with scheduling and monitoring through the myWallbox app, and a design many people prefer on a front wall.

Both are available in tethered and untethered versions, both need the same kind of dedicated circuit, and installation cost is driven far more by your property than by which of the two you pick. If you have solar panels, it's worth looking at our Ohme vs Zappi and Zappi vs Hypervolt guides too, since a solar-matching charger can change the maths.
