Newcastle has one of the most varied housing mixes in the North East, and that variety is the main reason two quotes in the same city can look so different. In inner areas such as Heaton, Byker and Fenham, Victorian terraces and older properties often have consumer units and meter positions that were never designed with an EV charger in mind, while the suburbs around Gosforth and Jesmond more often have driveways, garages and newer electrical installations.
For a house with a driveway, the cost is mostly the charger, the length of the cable run from your consumer unit, and whether the wall it will be fixed to is brick, render or stone. In an older terrace where the meter is in the cellar or hallway and the parking is on the street, the price question changes completely: the cable may have to cross a public footpath, which needs Newcastle City Council's permission, and if that isn't possible the realistic options are different altogether.
Older properties are also more likely to need a consumer unit upgrade before a charger can be safely fitted, and Georgian or Victorian buildings can mean careful routing to avoid damaging period features. Your installer will notify Northern Powergrid, the network operator for the North East, about the new chargepoint, and will flag if your supply needs a closer look.
None of this can be priced from a postcode. The most reliable figure comes from a survey of your actual property, so tell us about your home and parking in the quote form and we'll help match you with a suitable Newcastle installer. Our national installation cost guide explains the general cost drivers, and our Newcastle installer page covers the local parking picture.
