EV charger installation requirements

A home EV charger installation typically involves an assessment of your existing electrical supply, consumer unit, and a suitable mounting location — often on an exterior wall near your parking space.

Your installer will also consider cable routing, earthing arrangements and any additional groundworks needed, particularly if your parking is some distance from your consumer unit or across a driveway.

Every property is different, which is why it's worth getting a quote based on your actual home rather than a generic checklist. Our installation cost guide explains what tends to move the price up or down.

If you're dealing with a flat or a property without a driveway, the requirements can look a little different — our guides on charging at a flat and charging without a driveway cover those situations specifically.
